Exporting your cropped video

Your cropped video is ready

Download cropped video

Export re-encodes the video in your browser (MP4 in Chrome, Edge, and Safari; WebM in Firefox), so there is a small quality cost versus the original. Your source file is never modified.

How it works

Three steps. Everything happens inside your browser tab — there is no server processing your video, because there is no server involved at all.

Step 1

Drop your video

MP4 or WebM — the file is read locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, ever.

Step 2

Frame the crop

Pick 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or a free frame. Drag the crop area to move it, drag a corner to resize — it stays locked to your ratio.

Step 3

Preview & export

Watch the cropped preview, then export. The tool re-encodes just your crop in the browser and hands you the download.

One crop, every feed

The presets cover the aspect ratios every major platform wants. Pick one, drag the frame until your subject sits right, export.

16:9

Widescreen. YouTube, landscape embeds, and anywhere horizontal video lives.

9:16

Full vertical. Crop video to 9:16 for Reels, Shorts, and TikTok from a horizontal clip.

1:1

Square. Feed posts that hold their own in a scrolling timeline.

4:5

Tall portrait. Maximum screen space for vertical feed posts.

Free

Any custom frame. Draw exactly the crop you want, no ratio lock.

Private by design, not by promise

Most online video tools make you upload your footage to their servers first. UmBreak’s video cropper is built the other way around: your file never leaves your device, so there is nothing to leak, sell, or subpoena.

What never happens

  • Your video is never uploaded. Cropping and encoding run in this tab.
  • No account, no email, no tracking pixels tied to your files.
  • Closing the tab wipes everything. We keep no copies because we never receive any.

Questions, answered honestly

The things people actually ask before cropping a video online.

How do I crop a video online without installing anything?+
Drop your MP4 or WebM into the tool above. Pick an aspect ratio, drag the crop frame where you want it, and hit Export cropped video. Everything runs in your browser — no upload, no install, no account. The download is ready when the video finishes playing through.
Can I crop a video to 9:16 for Reels, Shorts, or TikTok?+
Yes. Choose the 9:16 preset and drag the vertical frame over your subject. That is the standard trick for turning a horizontal clip into a full-screen vertical one for Reels, Shorts, or TikTok — the tool exports exactly the region you framed.
Can I crop an MP4 online free with this?+
Yes — crop MP4 online free, no signup. Drop the MP4 in, frame your crop, and export. It is free because there is no server processing your video; your own device does the encoding. There is no watermark and no length limit beyond what your machine can comfortably encode.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?+
No. Cropping and encoding run entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device, there is no account, and closing the tab wipes everything. You can verify this yourself: disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working.
What format will the exported video be?+
The tool re-encodes just your cropped region in the browser and picks the best container your browser supports: MP4 in Chrome, Edge, and Safari; WebM in Firefox. Your original audio is carried over whenever the browser can capture it. WebM plays in all modern browsers and most editors; if you need a classic H.264 MP4 specifically, any free converter can remux it without re-encoding.
Does cropping reduce video quality?+
Cropping itself only cuts pixels — the small quality cost comes from re-encoding, which every browser-based cropper has to do. To keep quality high, frame the largest crop you can (a 9:16 slice of a 4K clip still exports at full vertical resolution) and avoid exporting the same file twice. Your source file is never modified, so you can always re-export.
What are the limits?+
Export runs in real time — a 3-minute video takes about 3 minutes to export — and 4K or very long files are slow on modest machines, because your CPU does the encoding. Keep the tab in focus during export. MP4 (H.264) and WebM load in every modern browser; some formats (HEVC, certain MOV files) may not decode — convert those first if yours will not load.

Honest limits — read before you rely on it

  • Export re-encodes your video (MP4 in Chrome, Edge, and Safari; WebM in Firefox), so there is a small quality cost versus the original. The source file is never touched.
  • Export runs in real time. A 5-minute video takes about 5 minutes, and 4K files are slow on modest machines. There is no cloud — your CPU does all the work.
  • Keep this tab in focus while exporting. Background tabs can stall the recording and leave gaps in the output.
  • MP4 (H.264) and WebM load everywhere. Some formats (HEVC, certain MOV files) may not decode in your browser — convert first if yours will not load.
  • Audio is preserved whenever the browser can capture it. If it cannot, the tool says so honestly instead of shipping you a silent file.

Cleaning up speech, not just framing?

UmBreak’s main tool removes filler words (um, uh, like) from audio and video — free, in your browser, no signup. Pair a tight crop with a tight edit.
